From the Ancient Greek word \u201c\u03c0\u03ad\u03c0\u03c9\u03bd\u201d<\/em>, meaning melon, and through a series of linguistic transformations, we eventually arrived at the English word pumpkin<\/em>, which we use today to describe the \u03ba\u03bf\u03bb\u03bf\u03ba\u03cd\u03b8\u03b1. This quintessential autumn food, with its vibrant orange color and distinctive shape, belongs to the Cucurbita<\/em> genus and is a fruit with tremendous nutritional value and very few calories.<\/p>\r\n

Originating from American traditions such as Halloween and Thanksgiving, pumpkin has nonetheless been embraced in Greece in recent years with great success and is increasingly used in delicious recipes.<\/p>\r\n

But what is it that makes it so popular?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n

Aside from being rich in vitamins A, C, E, niacin, and folic acid, 100 g of cooked pumpkin contain only 20 calories, while it has no fat or cholesterol. Its high fiber content creates a feeling of fullness, helping us feel satiated more quickly, while vitamin A is well known for its antioxidant properties. Although banana is the most famous source of potassium with 422 mg, pumpkin appears to contain 564 mg, contributing to optimal muscle function.<\/p>\r\n

Beyond the valuable micronutrients it offers as a food, pumpkin can be enjoyed in many different ways at the table. Raw, roasted, or even in soups, its nutritional value is found not only in its flesh but also in its seeds. Its uses vary according to taste, as it can be featured in both sweet and savory recipes. We often encounter it in soups, salads, quiches, fluffy cakes, and even pumpkin rolls.<\/p>\r\n
